Moscone Center & Events

Moscone Center is located at 747 Howard Street in San Francisco, California. It is the largest exhibition space in the city. There are three large halls, of which two are underground and beneath the Yerba Buena Gardens, called Moscone South and Moscone North. The third one is a three-story exhibition hall across the 4th Street referred to as Moscone West. Moscone South was the first hall developed in 1981. It was designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum. The place is named after the former mayor of the city, George Moscone. He was assassinated in 1978. Incidentally, George Moscone was against the idea of developing the area that would lead to the inevitable displacement of the poor and elderly residents.

Moscone Convention Center has hosted many professional gatherings, some of them larger than others. Notable events hosted at the center include VMworld, annual general meetings of Geophysical Union and the American Bar Association, Macworld Expo, Game Developers Conference, Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, Microsoft’s Build conference, Oracle OpenWorld, Google I/O, WonderCon, JavaOne, RSA Conference and DNC in 1984. Moscone Center has a total exhibition space of nine hundred thousand square foot.
